Coonoor, a picturesque hill station in Tamil Nadu, is around 17 km away from Ootyand is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris. Located at a height of 1839 meters, it is famous for Nilgiri tea production. Apart from being a trekker’s delight with lush green hills, tea plantations, valleys and waterfalls, it also serves as a base point leading into the Nilgiris. The Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint
Situated 10 km away from Coonoor, it provides a spectacular view of the vast stretch of Nilgiri hills along with therenowned Catherine Falls. Also,on the way is Lady Canning's seat which is known for its panoramic views.
Lamb’s Rock
When one travels to the Dolphin’s Nose, around 8 km away from Coonoor, one can come across the Lamb’s Rock which offers breath-taking views of the Coimbatore Plains.
Law’s Falls
Located at a distance of around 7 km from Coonoor on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam Road, it is famous for being a scenic picnic spot where the waterfall cascades from a height of about 180 feet. It is a naturalists’ paradise with vast areas of isolated sholas.
Sim’s Park
Positioned at an elevation of around1768-1798 meters, it offers natural shola with winding lanes all along the slopes. Divided into eight major sections where over 1000 varieties of singular tree species like magnolia, pines, tree ferns and camelliaare planted and spread out beautifully, it lends a splendid charm to the area during blooming seasons.Moreover, it is partly built in the Japanese style where the key attractionsare the annual fruit and vegetable show held in May.
Droog Fort
A historic fort, Droog Fort is located only 15 km from Coonoor at an elevation of 6000 feet from sea level. Once used as an outpost by Tipu Sultan, today the fort is in ruins. The watch tower in the fort offers great views of the surroundings.
Pomological Station
Dedicated to the research of apples, peaches, lemons, plums, apricots and pomegranates, this research institute is a famous institute of the country. It is located on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam Ghat Road. One can buy a variety of delicious fruit jams from here.
