Khajuraho

Dotted with unique and exquisitely carved ancient temples, Khajuraho is one of the finest examples of rich cultural heritage of India and also one of its kind. Incredible to the core, Khajuraho is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh reflecting a heady-mix of history, culture and art. Its temples are simply the architectural marvels and earned it the coveted title of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its temples reflect extensive erotic artwork, inspired by the Kama Sutra. They were built in the period between 9th to 11th centuries by the warrior kings of the Chandela dynasty.

Temples
The enchanting temples of Khajuraho sprawl across 21 sq km and are distinguished into The Western Group of Temples, The Eastern Group of Temples and The Southern Group of Temples. Initially there were 85 temples in the complex but now only 22 are left. Each temple is an architectural masterpiece in itself. Chaunsat Yogini is the oldest temple in the complex and Kandariya Mahadeo Temple  is the largest and the grandest. Each temple has its own story to tell through its intricately carved sculptures. The sculptures adorning the temples revolve around various roles of women such as adorning herself , playing with children and enjoying sensual pleasures.
