Orchha Fort
Ideally located on the island on Betwa River, Orchha Fort has several palaces and temples inside its complex. Raj Mahal, Rai Parveen Mahal and Jahangir Mahal are the must-see palaces of the fort as they have awesome architecture. Raj Mahal is the oldest historic monument inside the fort. Rai Parveen Mahal, now in ruins, was built by the king Indramani for Rai Parveen who was a poetess and a dancer.
Ram Raja Temple
Dedicated to Lord Rama, this temple is the only place in the country where Lord Rama is worshipped as a king. The temple premise was once a palace.
Laxminarayan Temple
The striking feature of this temple is its architecture which is a perfect blend of a fort and temple architecture. It is located on a hill and offer wonderful views of the surroundings. It also boasts of amazing paintings touching various themes.
Chatturbhuj Temple
Built by Raja Madhukar in the 15th century, Chatturbhuj Temple is known for its exterior walls festooned with symbols of different religions.
Phool Bagh
It is a nice place to unwind amidst greenery. The fountains, greenery and a palace-pavilion make it a popular picnic spot.
Chhatris
Symbolizing the rich cultural heritage and the contributions of the rulers of the Bundelkhand dynasty, Chattris are a fabulous attraction of Orchha. The 14 Chhatris built beside the Betwa River in Orchha are architectural marvels.
Orchha Wildlife Sanctuary
Visit the sanctuary to catch glimpses of a wide variety of wildlife such as tigers, leopards, langur, blue bull, monkey, peacock, jackal, sloth bear etc. It is also a bird’s paradise as it is a home to more than 200 bird species.
How to reach
The nearest airport is in Gwalior (116 km) which connects it to the major cities like Delhi, Varanasi and Khajuraho. Jhansi is the nearest railway station (16 km).
