Wayanad is the sole district in Kerala to border both the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Some major attractions of Wayanad
Chembra Peak
Located at a height of around 2100 metres near Meppadi town, it is the highest peak in Wayanad. Trekking and camping to the summit of this mountain is an unforgettable journey and it takes a day to climb up and down. Nevertheless, the terrains are rocky and offer challenging rock-climbing experiences along with breathtaking views of the surroundings.
Neelimala
A mountaineer’s delight, it is situated in the south-eastern part of Wayanad and is famous for myriads of trekking routes and splendid surroundings. As one reaches to the top, overwhelming views of the Meenmutty falls and the adjoining valley doesn’t fail to captivate.
Pakshipathalam
Located at a height of above 1700 metres, it covers wide forest areas in the Brahmagiri hills. It also houses deep caves where diverse species of animals, plants and birds are found. Before trekking in this area, tourists are required to seek special permissions from the forest department.
Muthanga Wild Life Sanctuary
Located at a distance of 16 km from Sulthan Bathery, it covers a vast area of around 345 sq. kms. It is also the largest habitat of fauna in the Malabar region. One can view rare species of spotted deer and tigers.
Sentinel Rock Waterfalls
Located near Chooralmala in Meppadi, this beautiful place is both a picnic cum hiking zone. Elevated above 200 metres, it is an ideal place to unwind and enjoy the greenery around.
Edakkal Caves
These are wonderful caves as the structure of the caves leave one in awe. A huge boulder balances itself on two small boulders thus forming a cave structure. There are two chambers in the cave, the lower and upper.
Bansura Sagar Dam
It is the largest earth dam in India where people come to relax and have a picnic with their loved ones. The surrounding of the dam consists of lush green hills.
Other Attractions
Other attractions include Sulthan Bathery, Kuruva Island, Lakkidi, the Kanthanpara and Soochippara Waterfalls, and the Pookode Lake which is a natural freshwater lake amidst the backdrop of lush green hills.
How to Reach
Wayanad is well connected by both air and rail via Kozhikode. Karipur international airport at Kozhikode is around 100 km from Wayanad.
