Mararikulam is a village surrounded by beaches in the Alappuzha district of Kerala. The beautiful beach is known as the Marari Beach or the Mararikulam beach. Divided into two village panchayats mainly Mararikulam South and Mararikulam North, this small beach village is also considered as one of the best tourist spots in Kerala by the visitors. It is even rated by the National Geographic survey as one of the world’s top five hammock beaches.
Mararikulam abounds in natural settings and is a nature lover’s delight. One can study and explore myriads of the Malabar coastal ecosystem which boasts of over 97 species of butterflies, more than 350 species of endemic plants, 3 varieties of turtles, over 10 kinds of frogs and innumerable rare species of birds.
Being a small village in Kerala, the primary occupation of the villagers is fishing. They earn a meagre income of Rs. 100-300 a day and earn some extra income from tourists who frequent the village and the beaches.

Some major attractions in and around Mararikulam
Mararikulam has the Mahadeva temple and the Arthunkal church adjacent to it. Other attractions near the town of Alappuzha are namely the Ambalapuzha temple which is famous for its rose palpayasam (traditional sweet dish) named after the light pink hue of milk achieved due to long boiling, St. Mary’s Church (Champakulam) which is believed to be built by St. Thomas, the Sreekrishna Swamy Temple where Lord Krishna is worshipped in a baby form and is famous for its unique and extremely secret Paal-Payasam (sweet milk dessert) made from rice with jaggery in milk, the Karimadi Kuttan which houses a 9th century statue of Lord Buddha made entirely out black granite, the Koickalethu Buddhist Temple which is one of the last Buddhist temples in Kerala and the Jain Derasar.
How to Reach
Mararikulam is well connected by air through Cochin International Airport (around 72 km). It is also well-connected by rail through the cities of Kochi (Cochin), Trivandrum, Kozhikode, Coimbatore and others. Moreover, there are several bus services operating from Cochin and Trivandrum.
